Illinois State Fair Announces 2023 Theme Days

•March 1, 2023• The Illinois State Fair recently announced new theme and discount days for 2023. Changes have been made from theme days in years past. County Fairs and Horse Racing Day will start it all off on Thursday, August 10 with gates opening at 7am. This change will provide a full day of horse racing, county fair celebrations, free entertainment, carnival rides, all of your favorite fair food, traditional kick off activities and the annual Twilight Parade. 25 Years Ago This Week The Sullivan Singers and the Sullivan Singer Jr. brought home honors from the Pekin Show Choir Invitational. Singers Jr. walked away with the grand championship trophy in the junior high division, earning perfect scores in choreography and show from all three judges. The Sullivan Singers ended the day of preliminary competition as one of six groups selected to compete in the finals. Singers captured fourth place. Monthly Quarter Madness

•March 1, 2023• Moultrie County Monthly Quarter Madness will hold their March Quarter Auction on Wednesday, March 8. The event will be held at the Sullivan American Legion. Sullivan High School FCCLA is the charity of the month. SHS FCCLA uses funds for various competitions by their members, service projects, networking and offset other club expenses. New Water Plant on Schedule for July 2023 Start Up

•March 1, 2023• by Crystal Reed One of the current projects for the city of Sullivan is a new water plant which is currently under construction. The original cost estimate was $8.5 million, but with the cost of equipment and supplies after COVID, they are close to $9.5 million. According to Commissioner of Public Safety and Health Chuck Woodworth, the determination of the need for a new water plant was done by the Illinois EPA. Sullivan City Council Approves Memorandum of Understanding Between City and Illinois Fraternal Order of Police

•March 1, 2023• by Crystal Reed The Sullivan City Council approved a memorandum of understanding between the Illinois Fraternal Order of Police (IFOP) Labor Council and the City of Sullivan. Commissioner Mike Fowler was absent. Mayor Richard Glazebrook said this is something they are trying to use to keep and not burn out officers. The city is supposed to have nine officers. Sullivan celebrates America’s 250th

The annual Fourth of July parade kicked off a fun filled day of celebration hosted by the Sullivan American Legion Saturday.  Wyman Park was the next destination for the always entertaining watermelon eating contest, turtle races and sack races. At dusk, an amazing fireworks display capped off the festivities. More photos can be found on page 12.
