25 Years Ago This Week Bethany’s urgent storm sewer renovation project received a $200,000 boost from the federal government. Before an audience of about 25, Congressman Glenn Poshard and U.S. Dept of Agriculture representative Wallce Furrow presented Bethany’s present and former mayors, Joann Grove and Don Gibbons, with a check symbolizing the award. •January 4, 2023• June Memorial Day services were held in Sullivan, Bethany, Findlay and Windsor. At the ceremony in Greenhill Cemetery in Sullivan, Mayor Richard Glazebrook spoke. In Bethany the service was held at Marrowbone Township Cemetery and the speaker was Pastor Rob Roy. Kristi Hart was appointed as Planning and Zoning Director at the May meeting of the Moultrie County Board. Hart was born in Bethany and has four daughters. ALAH held their commencement on the football field. Valedictorian was Jacob Duzan and salutatorian Max Allen. Seth Webner built a bus shelter to keep students waiting for the school … Read More
City Council Approves Purchase of 2023 Ford Explorer for Police Department
•January 4, 2023• by Crystal Reed The Sullivan City Council held their last meeting of 2022 Wednesday, December 28. The only item of new business was waiving the bidding and approving the purchase of a 2023 Ford Explorer for the Police Department. Commissioners Abbey Sherwood and Doug Booker were absent. Bob Ingram addressed the council in regard to why they did not go out for bid on the purchase. Human Trafficking Awareness Month
•January 4, 2023• January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month, and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) is partnering with The Power Project to train group home and residential care facility staff across Illinois on how to identify, intervene and prevent human trafficking among their youth in treatment. Moultrie County Illinois PAWS is the charity of the month (find them on Facebook at “Moultrie County Illinois PAWs”). Moultrie County PAWS uses funds for companion animals in need of discretionary care and treatment. They also assist inidentifying and returning stray animals to their owners. Amish Country Tractor Cruise Comes to an End
•January 4, 2023• The Amish Country Tractor Cruise will not be held in 2023 and there are no plans to have the cruise in future years. “My interests have changed.” says Jim Fleming, Director and Co-Founder of the cruise which started in 2010. The cruise traveled a different route each year and attracted participants from seven states. The cruise was very successful and received national recognition in the Heritage Iron magazine in 2021.
