The emails haven’t been about political slants, sensationalism or misspellings in headlines but rather how to interpret them. As I’ve noted on a number of occasions, headlines are an art form. 25 Years Ago This Week Sullivan students placed fourth in the Showstoppers National Show Choir Competition at Disney World in Florida, competing against schools up to ten times the size of SHS. Don Lockwood, an agricultural and science teacher at Sullivan High School, was the 1997 Teacher of Excellence awarded by the Sullivan Community Education Foundation. His award included a plaque, certificate with excerpts from the nominators and a $1,000 grant to be used to purchase equipment or supplies for his classroom. Ten mini grants were awarded. City Council discusses Net Metering and Interconnection Ordinance Amendments

Due to the absence of commissioners Chuck Woodworth and Doug Booker, some items under new or unfinished business were postponed until the next meeting. Lee Beckman of Milano and Grunloh reported that for the water plant project, contract 1 is Grunloh Construction, contract 2 is All Service and contract 3 is Grunloh Building. Moultrie County Board Sets Salaries for Elected Officials

•March 16 2022• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Moultrie County Board set salaries for elected officials during their monthly meeting. A motion was approved to establish the Moultrie County Clerk starting salary (12/1/2022) set at $52,000 with an annual raise set for the second year (FY24) at 3%, third year (FY25) at 4% and the fourth year at 4% (FY26). The annual stipend is $6,500 per year. Sullivan Schools Facility Needs Forum

•March 16 2022• by Ellen Ferrera NP Writer The second meeting of the public forums on Sullivan school facility needs was held in the middle school gym 6:30-8 p.m., March 8. The 80 attendees were again assigned to groups of 10 people at eight tables with school superintendent, Ted Walk, leading the meeting. At the previous session a survey was taken, and there were 70 respondents to the 20 questions regarding needs in terms of importance. MCRTA Receives Award

•March 16 2022• Word has been received from Jim Bachman, the Illinois Retired Teachers Association (IRTA) Executive Director, that the Moultrie County Retired Teachers Association (MCRTA) Unit is being recognized as a 2021 IRTA “Unit of Distinction.” This program is a voluntary program based on the honor system that is designed to help guide and direct local unit leaders, as well as recognizing IRTA units that are the best in the state. Village of Bethany Board Meeting

•March 16 2022• The Village of Bethany had a board meeting on Thursday, March 10. Bethany mayor Jonathan Book said that during the meeting a water improvement fee was approved. Starting in May, water customers will see a $16 charge on their water bill each month. Money from the water improvement fee will go towards the village’s water improvement project. The village board also approved a policy on net metering. The policy now says that the village can’t limit the amount of customers with solar panels.
