Lake Shelbyville Disabled Deer Hunting Blinds Available at Whitley Creek Recreation Area

•September 29, 2021• The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers at Lake Shelbyville is offering additional deer hunting opportunities at Whitley Creek Recreation Area in Moultrie County for disabled deer hunters holding a state issued P2A card. Disabled hunters will be able to reserve one of 4 blinds in the closed Recreation Area during archery deer season. •September 29, 2021• Golf Girls The Okaw Valley girls’ golf team won the Lincoln Prairie Conference tournament championship with a score of 423 at Arcola Saturday. All six Timberwolves finished in the top eight spots to earn all-conference honors. Blue Ridge took second place with at 478, and Villa Grove placed third with at 573. Betty Ruff Betty M. Ruff, 95, of Lovington, passed away 12:30 p.m. Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Arthur Home. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 1, 2021, at Keller Cemetery, Lovington. Memorials may be made to the Lovington American Legion Post #429. McMullin-Young Funeral Home is in care of the arrangements. Betty was born April 10, 1926, in Cerro Gordo; the daughter of Emmett and Ethel (Allen) Good. She married Cecil L. Charles Goss Charles Goss, Sullivan, Illinois, age 94, passed peacefully with family at his bedside on Wednesday morning, September 22, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. Charles was born January 19,1927, to Charles E. and Nora (Weaver) Goss, of Nappanee, Indiana. He married Edna Marie (Miller) Goss on August 20, 1950. They were married for 68 years until her passing in December 2018. Charles and Edna lived life on their farm, raising 5 children, while instilling a strong work ethic, and teaching them to love the Lord. Eller Receives Award From American Red Cross

•September 22, 2021• Chase Eller, 17, of Sullivan, was recently awarded the American Red Cross’ Certificate of Extraordinary Personal Action for helping a choking child at a Decatur restaurant in January 2021. Established in 1911, the national Lifesaving Awards are issued by American Red Cross headquarters in Washington, D.C. to highlight whenever lifesaving skills are used. Sullivan AMBUCS Deck Roof On Habitat House

•September 22, 2021• The Sullivan AMBUCS partnered with the Moultrie County Habitat for Humanity on September 9 to put the roof on the newest Habitat build. According to Bob Gillespie, the club suggested that Habitat find a day where they could come out and help build the home. Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
