Patriot Day Assembly At High School Marks 20th Anniversary of 9-11

•September 15, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer Sullivan High School marked the 20th anniversary of the September 11,2001 terrorist attacks last Friday with a Patriot Day assembly. The program began with the “Star Spangled Banner” being played by the school band. There was news footage played with narration and video of the towers falling. Local first responders and veterans and active military personnel were honored then by having them stand and receive applause. County Board Approves FY 2022 Salary Assumptions

•September 15, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Moultrie County Board met last Thursday and approved FY 2022 salary assumptions by a vote of 5-3 with board members John Fayhee, Billy Voyles and Todd Maxedon voting no. The motion established that each department head and elected official will establish salaries for their full-time, non-union employees whose salaries are not determined by a predetermined system. Each department head or elected official would decide the starting salary, merit pay and or appreciation of performance bonuses for their department. … Read More

25 Years Ago This Week The members of the Bethany Village Board signed off on a potential $1.5 million project designed to shore up Bethany’s collapsing streets. Officials signed a letter of intent with the county and state to participate in an infrastructure project to renovate storm sewers and streets in Bethany. The schedule of improvement for the Sullivan school district included new windows for vocational and science rooms, removal of underground storage tank and elementary locker installation, total $170,000; new lighting, ceiling tile, windows for agriculture, band, art and cafeteria rooms, $200,000 and more. •September 15, 2021• Boys’ golf The Okaw Valley boys’ golf team won the Shelby County Invite with a team score of 401 Friday, Sept. 10. Central A&M placed second with 410 points, and the host Rams finished third with 441 points. WWS placed fourth with 455 points. Miles Harlin tied for first and finished second overall after the playoff. He shot an 85. Tyson Montgomery finished third overall with a 90, and Seth Webner carded a 111. Chamber Holds Ribbon Cutting for Racehorse Flats Wind

•September 15, 2021• The Sullivan Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting for Racehorse Flats Wind Wednesday, September 8. Racehorse Flats Wind is a new 400-megawatt wind farm in development in southern Macon and western Moultrie counties. Currently in the early stages of development, Racehorse Flats will put enough clean electricity on the grid to power the equivalent of more than 128,000 U.S. homes and represents a $450 million capital investment in the area. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
