Coles County Man Charged With Armed Violence

•June 23, 2021• Alexander W. Fritz, 25, Charleston has been charged with armed violence, unlawful possession of a stolen/converted motor vehicle, and resisting a peace officer related to an incident which occurred on June 14 in rural Moultrie County. On June 14, Fritz was charged with one count of Armed Violence, a Class X Felony, which alleges that on June 14, while committing the offense of unlawful possession of a stolen/converted vehicle, Fritz was armed with a Ruger rifle. •June 16, 2021• Baseball The Okaw Valley boys’ baseball team won another regional title this past week but could not parlay that momentum into a sectional win. During the Class 1A IHSA Regional C, the Timberwolves knocked off Kansas 3-0 Friday, June 4, and then defeated Lincoln Prairie rival Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond 4-0. The Timberwolves advanced to Sectional 6 but lost to Farina South Central 7-2 Against Farina South Central, the Timberwolves fell behind 3-0 in the third inning. 25 Years Ago This Week Five contestants were vying for the title of Miss Lovington during the annual pageant. Vying for the title were Amber Atteberry, Misty Williams, Misty Smith, Diana Oliver and Diana Black. An abundance of rain had put a damper on golf that spring at two of the three local courses. During that past May, 13.2 inches had fallen on the Sullivan area. The Lovington school board discussed the rising kindergarten size during their meeting. City Council Sets Sewer and Water Rates

•June 16, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Sullivan City Council approved an ordinance revising sewer and water rates for the city of Sullivan during Monday’s meeting. Commissioner Chuck Woodworth said the rate changes within this ordinance include the four percent discussed and authorized at the last meeting. It also includes a tiered rate for those who use more than 4,000 gallons a month. The reason for adding the tiered rate is to make the city eligible to qualify for hundreds of thousands of dollars of grant money from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for water main … Read More

“Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
