Orris Reflects On Lady Lakers National Title

•May 12, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer Josie Orris reflected on the Lady Lakers NJCAA Division II national championship win by saying that it was absolutely incredible. “I couldn’t have asked for a better way to end my career,” she said. The team earned the national title at the championship game on April 24 where the Lakers won against the Johnson County Cavaliers with a score of 53-49. The team qualified for the national tournament last year, but the event was cancelled due to the pandemic. … Read More

Sullivan City Council Approves Raises

•May 12, 2021• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Sullivan City Council approved a 75-cent per hour raise for full-time, non-union employees of the city with the exception of five employees at the water plant who are currently seeking union representation. Their pay rate cannot be changed at this time. The council also approved funding in the amount of $75,000 for the Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development. According to City Administrator Dan Flannell, this is the city’s annual support payment to SCED which is used in conjunction with county funding for operations. •May 12, 2021• 2021 Mobile Home Privilege Taxes are due May 17, 2021. Taxes may be mailed to Moultrie County Collector, 10 S. Main Suite 10, Sullivan,IL 61951. Taxes may also be paid at all Moultrie County Banks and Scott State Bank in Mt. Zion. Office hours are 8:30 am to 4:30 pm Monday through Friday and they can be reached by calling 217-728-4032. 25 Years Ago This Week Spring storms turned streets into rivers, toasted electrical equipment and made two flood rescues necessary in Moultrie County. A lightning bolt struck Sullivan’s tallest building, the Moultrie County Courthouse, damaging phones throughout the building as well as computers with phone modems and the courtroom security system. Lake Shelbyville Kids Fishing Tournament

“Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
