Don Matheson Don W. Matheson, 89, of Sullivan passed away at 6:40 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021, at his home in rural Sullivan. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 16 at McMullin-Young Funeral Home in Sullivan. Austin Kelley wins Moultrie County Spelling Bee

•February 17, 2021• The Moultrie County Spelling Bee was held last Wednesday virtually using the Scripps online platform. Students participating in the virtual bee were from Lovington Grade and the Sullivan School District. Sullivan School District participants were James Conlin, Austin Kelley, Hannah Creek, Brady Stollard, Landon Jesse, Xandria Smith. Alternates were Rowan Mast and Nixon Dundee. Lovington Grade School participants were Isabella Menna, Brian Hadley, Rylie Pitts, Macelyn Boddy, Maxton Boddy and Jacob Hurt. Alternates were Makenna Liming and Samantha Fowler. Okaw Valley Boys Basketball Posts Wins

•February 17, 2021• by Jason Brown NP Sports The Okaw Valley boys’ basketball team improved its overall record to 4-1 and its Lincoln Prairie Conference with blowout wins against Tri-County and Blue Ridge. Friday night, the Timberwolves took care of Tri-County 53-32. Okaw Valley took an 18-14 first quarter lead and extended that lead to 30-22 at the half. The Timberwolves extended that lead to double digits in the third quarter, then outscored the Titans 14-4 in the final period. Every Okaw Valley player scored at least one point. SHS Places First In Academic Challenge Competition

As a team Sullivan placed first in their division, which consists of other area schools with enrollments ranging from 300-700 students. Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
