25 Years Ago This Week The Sullivan school district announced an open house and dedication ceremony for the new elementary school. The public was encouraged to tour the new school upon the completion of the ceremony. A much-debated science course finally got a tentative green light from the Bethany school board. Late last year, board members sent a proposal for an introductory science course back to the district’s curriculum committee for consideration. The science course proposal was voted down. Sullivan Boys Basketball Wins Against Central A&M and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg

•February 17, 2021• by Jason Brown NP Sports The Sullivan boys’ basketball team lost its home opener against Meridian High School, but bounced back to win a conference and non-conference game to finish the week 2-1. After losing to the Hawks, Sullivan defeated Central A&M Friday and Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Saturday. Against the Hatchets Saturday, Sullivan was consistent in the first two quarters with 11 points each to take a 22-16 halftime lead. Don Matheson   Don W. Matheson, 89, of Sullivan, passed away, 6:40 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2021, at his home in rural Sullivan. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at McMullin-Young Funeral Home, Sullivan. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Face masks are suggested and please practice social distancing for the services. Burial will be in Greenhill Cemetery, Sullivan, with Military Rites by the Sullivan American Legion Post #68. C.E.F.S. Moultrie County Outreach Office Welcomes New Outreach Coordinator

Allison Garrett works closely with the housing counselor, rent assistance, energy assistance and food pantry. •February 10, 20201• The University of Illinois Extension in cooperating partnership with sponsors Decatur Catholic Charities and Lovington Ambulance Service will be having a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, February 24 from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at Lovington Ambulance Service. A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady food supply qualifies to receive food. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
