•January 13, 20201• By Capitol News Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan announced he would suspend his campaign for House Speaker of the 102nd General Assembly on Monday, Jan. 11, but his statement made clear he was not withdrawing from the race. “This is not a withdrawal. City Council Approves Additional Funds For COVID PPE Supplies

•January 13, 20201• by Crystal Reed NP Writer The Sullivan City Council approved additional funds for COVID PPE supplies during Monday night’s meeting. The action was granted to the city administrator to purchase COVID personal protective equipment in the amount not to exceed an additional $10,000 for a total authorization of $60,000. Commissioner Abbey Sherwood asked City Administrator Dan Flannell whether he has seen a need for youth masks. He replied that he will contact the Sullivan school superintendent to look into it. NAMI Family to Family Class

•January 13, 20201• NAMI is offering a free eight-session peer education program for family members, significant others and friends of people with mental health conditions. The program will be taught by NAMI-trained family members who have been there and includes presentations, discussions, and interactive exercises. 25 Years Ago This Week Roger Betzler, Russell Craig and Doug Lane, city electric department employees worked for 2 ½ hours to restore power at the west edge of Sullivan which also knocked out the city’s cable tv service. After grounding the 69,000 volt power line, they replaced the dead-end bells which arced, causing the fire and the loss of power. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
