Businesses To Participate In Small Business Saturday

•November 25, 2020• By Crystal Reed NP Writer Small Business Saturday is a shopping holiday held during the Saturday after Thanksgiving. American Express created the event during the recession in 2010 to encourage people to shop small and bring more holiday shopping to small businesses. One local business that is participating is Buxton’s Garden and Flower Shop located on 121 between Bethany and Sullivan. They started as a small roadside stand selling sweetcorn out of the back of a pick-up truck and have grown into a year round garden center. City Council Hears About Chamber’s of Commerce’s Christmas Plans

•November 25, 2020• by Crystal Reed NP Writer During Monday evening’s Sullivan City Council meeting the council heard about the plan that the Sullivan Chamber of Commerce has for the holiday season. Director of Sullivan Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Laurrie Minor told the council that the chamber has an effort to try and provide every long term care resident in Sullivan a plant. •November 25, 2020• By Illinois Farm Bureau With concerns resurfacing over possible food shortages, a study from a national farm group found the supply chain is as resilient as ever – and it’s showing up in the form of lower prices for many traditional Thanksgiving dinner ingredients. This year, the American Farm Bureau Federation’s annual Thanksgiving dinner survey calculated the average cost of a traditional Thanksgiving meal for 10 people at $46.90. Shriver Makes All-Area Honorable Mention Team

•November 18, 2020• The News Gazette announced all-area girls’ golf teams this past week. One local athlete received honors. Sullivan junior golfer Alyssa Shriver made the all-area honorable mention team. Shriver was awarded the Most Valuable Player at the Redskins’ recent girls’ golf banquet. Shriver helped lead the Sullivan girls’ golf team to a fourth-place finish with a team score of 487 in the Central Illinois Conference meet this season. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation.
