25 Years Ago This Week Sullivan High School head basketball coach, Ted Turner, took a job to head the hoops for the conference rivals, the Clinton Maroons. In Sullivan, Turner taught elementary P.E. for six years. In Clinton he will be teaching high school P.E. and will be with the kids that he is coaching. A photo shows Courtney and Matt Dyer carrying on the family tradition of selling melons at Kerr-McGee in Sullivan, Their grandfather, Wayne Watkins, sold melons for some 30 years at the same location. Sullivan Director of Parks and Cemeteries Herb Bricker explained park garden beds that began with plant donations from My Garden owner Tina Krigbaum in the fall have grown well with regular rains this summer. Bethany Fire Protection District board of trustees president Lowell Ford opened the hearing by explaining the 15 square miles of mostly farmland in Shelby County west of Bethany toward Moweaqua has been covered by the Bethany fire and ambulance service for years without receiving any tax revenue. Extended Wet Weather Ended in July-Now the Heat is On

•August 7, 2019• The seven-month historic stretch of abnormally wet weather in Illinois ended with drier than average conditions in July, according to Brian Kerschner, spokesperson for the Illinois State Climatologist Office at the University of Illinois’ Illinois State Water Survey. The preliminary July average statewide precipitation was 3.23 inches, which is 0.85 inches below the long-term average. Since November 2018, each month has been reported with above average statewide precipitation. Although the amount of rain in July was below average overall, the precipitation across Illinois was not evenly distributed. The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization hosted its annual car show on August 22 at Crowder Park. The perfect afternoon weather bought out 52 entries and many enthusiastic onlookers. Greg Fitzgerald’s 1966 Pontiac GTO took home Best off Show honors.
