•May 8, 2019• By Jason Brown NP Sports Editor The Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond baseball team swept two home games against Cerro Gordo/Bement, Monday. In the first game of the doubleheader, after a scoreless first four innings, the Broncos plated a run in the top of the fifth inning to take the lead. •May 8, 2019• Capitol Wrap By Capitol News Illinois staff With the Legislature on spring break until April 30, advocacy groups are working to get their points across on topics such as cannabis legalization. State Sen. Heather Steans, a Chicago Democrat, said she expects amended language to be filed on her adult-use legalization, Senate Bill 7, by the end of April. While details of the bill have not been released publicly in an official capacity, 60 state representatives have signed onto a resolution by state Rep. Marty Moylan, D-Des Plaines, urging lawmakers to “slow the process of legalizing recreational marijuana.” … Read More

Bettie P. Davis Bettie P. Davis, 87, of Decatur, formerly of Sullivan, was born March 24, 1932 and passed away 11:15 a.m. Monday, April 29, 2019 at Decatur Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family. Bettie was the daughter of Paul and Mary Wilson. She married Kenneth K. Davis, Sr. on January 14, 1955 and they enjoyed over 64 years together. Bettie was a wonderful, caring, and loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma. After her own children were grown, she raised her eldest grandson as her own son. Hole in One for Ellis at Ironwood Classic

•May 1, 2019• Sullivan senior Caden Ellis recorded a hole-in-one during the first round of the Prep Tour Ironwood Classic. Ellis struck the shot on the 16th hole in rainy and windy conditions at Ironwood Golf Course. Ellis went on to win the 2-day event. For the Redskins in the fall, Ellis earned all-state honors with a tie for third place with a score of 76, earned first-team all-area honors. He was medalist in the regional and sectional titles and finished with a 35.7 nine-hole average. … Read More

BASO Car Show a success

The Bethany Advocates and Support Organization hosted its annual car show on August 22 at Crowder Park. The perfect afternoon weather bought out 52 entries and many enthusiastic onlookers. Greg Fitzgerald’s 1966 Pontiac GTO took home Best off Show honors.
