Harlin, Orris combine for 27 points

The Okaw Valley Lady Timberwolves took control versus the Rams immediately on Monday night quickly getting out to an 8-2 lead in the first three minutes.

While the Rams fought back to get within two points, the hot shooting of Paige Harlin and Amy Orris was simply too much for the Rams to handle. With time expiring in the first quarter, Orris took the inbounds pass, dribbled across half court, and let the ball fly. From basically mid court, Orris hit nothing but net just as the buzzer sounded. The circus shot gave Okaw Valley all the momentum and the early 17-11 lead. Harlin and Orris combined to go 5-7 from behind the line on threes, and the Lady Timberwolves never looked back. Read More

Sights already set on next year

About two months ago, students from multiple communities came together to form the first marching band in five years at Arthur-Lovington-Atwood-Hammond High School. While many had been accustomed to playing different tunes, in the end, it all became a melody that created a musical masterpiece.

“The students from the four communities all came together to work toward a common goal that resulted in a real sense of camaraderie,” noted Richard Moma, the ALAH High School band director. “The memories that were created from competing were those that resulted in working hard together as a cohesive unit and then realizing that all members of the group are important contributors to the overall successes and sometimes failures of the band.” Read More

Historic Redskin season cut short in playoffs

What could go wrong Saturday, did go wrong for SOV.

Noah Myer rushed for 118 yards with two touchdowns, and an opportunistic Auburn defense forced seven turnovers to advance past the SOV Redskins 36-14 in the first round of the ISHA Class 3A playoffs Saturday.

The Redskins would draw first blood but watched as the Trojans scored the next 36 points unanswered, ending one of the Redskins most successful football campaigns in recent memory. Auburn will host Carlinville next week in the second round of the ISHA playoffs. Read More

Freshman’s finish looks to be sign of things to come

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond freshman Logan Hall was the only runner from the Knights’ cross country team to qualify for Saturday’s Decatur sectional, where he finished 51st overall with his personal record of 16:55.90. Read More

Chicago Bears chooses SOV coach in week 4

Gerald Temples can add one more recognition to his list following Friday’s game.

The first year SOV head coach was officially presented his Chicago Bears Coach of the Week award from week four by Sullivan High School National Guard recruiter SFC. Dave Keefer

Temples was chosen by the NFL organization after the Redskins’ 42-0 thumping of Warrensburg in week four.

The award is sponsored by Fox 32 and the Illinois National Guard. Read More
