Rick Alan King from Nashville, Tennessee will be in concert on Saturday, June 8 at 6 pm at Allenville Christian Church, 201 Allen Street in Allenville. Following the concert there will be finger food fellowship. A love offering will be collected.

A Contemporary Christian Music Concert will be held on the lawn of the Bethany Free Methodist Church, 312 W. Main, Bethany on June 14. Music by the Encounter Church Band of East Peoria begins at 7:00pm.

Simon Hunter of Sullivan graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology - General Track from Blackburn College during the institution’s 155th Commencement ceremony on May 11. Hunter also received department honors in their academic field of study, served as President of the student organization Spectrum, and was inducted into the Alpha Chi National Honor Scholarship Society.

Living wax museum
The Sullivan Elementary School 4th graders presented their annual end of the school year living wax museum projects last Tuesday. Each student was given the assignment of choosing a real life person, living or dead, who has had a positive impact on American culture and/or history. The students researched, put together a report about the person, and put together some kind of costume and booth presentation for the person they chose.

Head Sullivan track coach John Bertetto looked at the regular season meets and added up all the competitors Sullivan has faced leading up to the state series. If the record was kept by how many of those teams were beaten by Sullivan, the record for the track team would be 161 wins and just a tick over 20 losses. This over .800 winning percentage leaves little to wonder how Sullivan qualified for 10 of the 18 events for the state preliminaries
Starting last Thursday, the IHSA Class 1A Boys State Series was held at O’Brien Field on the campus of Eastern Illinois University. The meet got underway early on with Brett Bushue competing in both the high jump and pole vault. The starting height on Thursday was 1.80m for the high jump. After missing his first two attempts, Bushue cleared the bar to move on to 1.85m. Unfortunately, that is where his bid for advancing to Saturday’s finals ended. With the sun shining, the churchyard and sanctuary festooned in star-spangled ribbons and flowers and service and awareness flags dancing around in the breeze, this was the alluring scene set before those in attendance Saturday at Natalie Elliott’s Thank-A-Veteran program held at Church House Treasures in Bethany.
Despite defeating Central A&M two previous times this year, the Okaw Valley softball team couldn’t make it a third in the regional championship Friday, instead falling 3-9. After Amanda McClain led her team from the mound for the first two innings of stalemate play, Abigail Weybright took over in the third, with McClain trying to avoid any potential injury with her state track bid on Saturday.
Two Okaw Valley High School students received Student Recognition Awards for the 2013-14 school year at Heartland Technical Academy in Decatur. Savannah Masters was named Student of the Year in agriscience technology and Andrew Sims in automotive technology. Read More
