Drive-Through Fundraiser

First Christian Church of Sullivan is serving a “Drive-Through Lunch” this Saturday, November 7 at FCC between 11:00 am & 1:00 pm. They will be serving Baked Spaghetti or Chicken Tetrazzini. All meals include main entrée, applesauce, roll, choice of apple or peach cobbler for dessert, & bottle of water. Suggested donation of $8.00, cash or check only. Pre-orders are recommended by calling 217-728-7351 or 217-972-2776. First Christian Church is located at 1357 CR 1200 East, Sullivan. Just go east on Rt. 121, turn north at Roley Estates.

COVID-19 Update

The Moultrie County COVID-19 update for October 31-November 2,2020 is 34 additional cases of COVID-19 with ages ranging from 1-70s. The total residents tested positive to date is 514. Total COVID-19 related deaths to date is 6.

Students Receive Scholarships

Lakeview College of Nursing in Danville and Charleston, awarded numerous scholarships for the Fall 2020 semester. The following area students are among those who received scholarships:
Whitney Miller of Sullivan, received the Manford Darnall Memorial Nursing Scholarship Fund. Miller attends Lakeview’s Charleston Campus.
Hannah Nowlin of Atwood, received the Helen Feldkamp Memorial Scholarship. Nowlin attends Lakeview’s Charleston Campus.
Lakeview College of Nursing Scholarships are made possible by generous donations to the College’s scholarship endowment fund. Scholarships are awarded based upon criteria established by the donor as well as the financial need and/or academic merit of each applicant.
Lakeview College of Nursing offers a bachelor of science in nursing degree. It is a single-purpose, private institution that has specialized in nursing education in the Danville area since 1894. Lakeview began offering the program in Charleston, in the fall of 2001.

Drive-Through Testing

The State of Illinois is sponsoring a community drive through COVID-19 test site on Friday, Nov 6 from 9 am to 4 pm at Building 1225, 1225 S. Hamilton Street in Sullivan. Simple nasal swabs will be used. You will be called with results within 4-7 days. There is no cost for testing. Bring your insurance card, but you can still be tested if you don’t have insurance. Anyone can be tested, you don’t have to have symptoms or be sick.

Pastor Mike’s Pulled Pork

Call 728-4436 to pre-order. Leave your name, how many pounds needed and your phone number. Hot dogs and BBQ sandwiches to go available also. Proceeds to benefit Memorial Pavilion.

Sixth COVID-19 related Death

It is with saddened hearts that the Moultrie County Health Department (MCHD) confirms a sixth COVID-19 related death of a Moultrie County female resident in her 50s.
“We would like to extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends and ask for their privacy during this difficult time,” Angela Hogan, Administrator for the Moultrie County Health Department, said. “The MCHD will release no additional information.”
To date, 411 Moultrie County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, which includes five previous COVID-19 related deaths.
The Illinois Department of Public Health recently placed Moultrie County under a “warning status” due to increased COVID-19 positivity rates among county residents. For the period ending Friday, October 16, 2020, Moultrie County’s positivity rate was 12.2% which exceeds the 8.0% limit.
The MCHD strongly advises individuals and businesses to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 in our communities by using these precautions:
• Watch physical distance and keep six feet from others.
• Wear a mask when in public places.
• Wash hands routinely.
• Above all, stay home if ill.

Beware of Property Scams

Moultrie County Clerk and Recorder Georgia England would like all property owners to beware of property scams. If you receive a piece of mail from a company called Property Site stating for a $95.00 fee you can obtain a copy of the Deed to your property….THROW IT AWAY! England states that a person may obtain a copy of their Deed from the County Clerk and Recorders office for a fee of $0.50 per page, with most Deeds being 2-4 pages.
Protect your property from property fraud by signing up for Property Fraud Alert. It is a free service offered by the Moultrie County Clerk and Recorder’s office and their associate recording vendor, Fidlar Technologies. Waterfowl Hunting Procedures

Lake Shelbyville- Due to high water this spring and summer, all hunting in Okaw Wetlands and Whitley Potholes will be in accordance with statewide regulations. There will not be pit blinds or skid blinds available this year. The handicap blind in the Okaw Wetland will still be reservable this season, and is located in the same location as years past. Hunters not hunting in the handicap blind will have to follow the state minimum distance regulation of 200 yards between groups. This year’s waterfowl dates are as follows: Youth season - Oct. 17 – 18, Duck - Oct. 24 - Dec.22 and Canada goose - Oct. 24 - Nov. 1 and Nov. 12 - Jan. 31. Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
