Trunk or Treat

Trunk or Treat will be hosted at Smyser Christian Church on October 25 from 4-6pm. Bring your children in costume to see decorated trunks, collect candy, ride horses, and enjoy hotdogs and s’mores. Invite your friends and come join us for this SCC sponsored FREE event.

Attention County Board Candidates

The Moultrie County News Progress will be running candidate profiles for Moultrie County Board candidates on Wednesday, October 28. County board candidates may submit a photo, biography and reason for running. This is a free story and photo for county board candidates participating in the November 3 election. Members Awarded

Two Sullivan Lions Club members were awarded long-time membership chevrons by Lions District 1-M Governor, Bill Wallpe, of Danville. Steve Mayberry was honored for his 30 years of membership, and Robert V. Elder was recognized for being a 55 year Lion. Sullivan Lions Club is active in contributing to vision and hearing assistance for needy local residents, as well as the food pantry and elementary school weekend food program.They also donate to local youth activities, and have presented several items to Wyman Park.

Storytime

The Elizabeth Titus Memorial Library will be hosting a storytime on Wednesday, October 21 at 10 a.m. at the pavilion by the tennis courts at Wyman Park. They have invited the Sullivan firefighters and Freddy to the storytime. After the story there will be a craft activity. In case of rain they will meet in the large room at the library.

Candlelight Ceremony

Dove invites you to join us for our 20th Annual Candlelighting Ceremony, “Be a Light”. At this service, we will mourn those who have suffered and died through domestic violence and celebrate with the survivors and those working to end the abuse. This ceremony takes place in October as part of Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The ceremony will be held Thursday, October 22, 2020, at Wyman Park, Sullivan. The service will begin at 6:00 p.m. and will include remarks from coordinator Becky Freese, and the lighting of the candles. The event will also highlight the 20th Anniversary of the Dove Moultrie County Program and Dove, Inc.’s 50th Anniversary. (In case of inclement weather, watch for signs in the park and Dove’s Facebook page for a change to an inside location.)

The Moultrie County COVID-19 update for October 9, 2020 is 3 additional cases of COVID-19 with ages ranging from 10-20s. The total residents tested positive to date is 259. Total COVID-19 related deaths to date is 4.

Fall Family Festival

The Sullivan Civic Center will be hosting a Fall Family Festival on Saturday, October 17 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wyman Park. Activities include a costume parade, hayrides, pumpkin painting, hot dogs, games, s’mores and more. Pre register for only $2 per person and $5 per family or pay at the event $4 per person and $10 per family. To pre register contact the Sullivan Civic Center at (217) 728-4541.

Students Achieve Milestone

Lakeview College of Nursing recently held three ceremonies to recognize students who achieved the transition into clinical practice within their bachelor’s degree nursing program.
Students from the local area who participated in a ceremony held on the College’s Charleston campus are Marcia Wagoner of Arthur,Hannah Nowlin of Atwood and Deanna Braden and Whitney Miller both of Sullivan.

Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
