Mt. Zion Church Holds Bazaar

The Mt. Zion Presbyterian Church is having a Bazaar and Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the church in Mt. Zion.
The Bazaar opens at 8:00 a.m. lasting until 7:00 p.m. or until supplies last.
A soup supper will be served from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and will include: chili, beef vegetable, vegetarian vegetable and potato soups; relish, cheese and crackers, corn bread, desserts, and drinks are all included.
There will be a string band playing at 5:00 p.m. and again at 6:00 p.m.

Lovington Holds Free Fall Festival

The Lovington Revitalization Coalition will hold the 4th Annual Lovington Fall Festival Weenie Roast on Sunday, October 14. This free event will be held 4-7 p.m. in the Lovington park.
There will be activities for all ages including a pumpkin carving/decorating contest and bobbing for apples. Gail Wolfe will be offering free rides in his horse-drawn wagon from 4-5 pm.
Youth activities include sack races, pumpkin races and games. Races will start at 5 pm. Games will include candy corn bowling, pumpkin putt-putt golf, corn cob ring toss and more.
Free food and beverages for the public will include hot dogs, chips, sides, hot chocolate, water and s’mores.

Sullivan IGA Has Cookout

Sullivan IGA is showing its appreciation to area police, fire department and first responders offering free grilled ribeye sandwiches Friday, Oct. 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Barry Golden and the meat department crew will have the grill smoking in the Griffin’s BBQ wagon on the parking lot during the 2018 Beef Stampede. Visitors will get a chance to purchase freshly cooked ribeye sandwiches as well as get a chance to guess the weight of the Lehman family’s award winning Hereford Heifer. The two closest guesses will win four 3/4 inch thick ribeye steaks.
Central Illinois Toughest Putt is back! A hole in one is good for a free ribeye sandwich.
Special guests are the Sullivan Okaw Valley Redskins football team. Drop by to meet the team, their coaches and wish them luck in Friday night’s game.

SCED Safe Trick or Treat

October 19 is the deadline for businesses to register for Safe Trick or Treating in Sullivan from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, October 31.
Sponsored annually by Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development Safe Trick or Treat participating locations are marked with the orange Jack-O-Lantern in the window.
The AmBucs Halloween Parade on the square follows Safe Trick or Treating at 6:30 p.m.

Post 68 Car Show Returns

The Sullivan American Legion Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show is Sunday, October 21 on the lawn of Post 68 on Main Street in Sullivan.
The Sons of American Legion will be grilling out, and drinks are available in the club room, with beer tasting from noon to 3:30 p.m.

Habitat House Blessing Friday

The Sullivan Habitat for Humanity house blessing for Patricia and David Conklin in the Moultrie County Habitat subdivision on Eden Street will be at 5 p.m. Friday, October 12.
The national Habitat for Humanity Care-A-Vanners finishing crew will be on hand along with Moultrie County Habitat and family volunteers for the key presentation and blessing program.

Benefit for Injured Player

A benefit will be held for Keegan Collins Oct 6 and 7 at Wyman Park in Sullivan.
Keegen suffered a massive concussion during a JFL game August 11. He was taken to Shelby Co. Hospital and later air lifted to Springfield.
He is undergoing physical and speech therapy to help regain what he has lost from the accident.
To help raise funds for the Collins family a co-ed slow pitch softball tournament and home run derby, a three on three basketball tournament, silent auctions, raffles, and family games for all ages are set for the two days at Wyman Park.
First game of the co-ed softball tournament starts at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and the first three on three basketball tournament begins at 8 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 7.

Spring concert

On Tuesday, April 28th, under the direction of Dr. Ian Kinkley, Band Director, the Sullivan Band Program presented its symphonious Spring Band concert, titled “Evening Escapes,” which showcased the magnificent and diverse talents of the Sullivan 6th, 7th and 8th grade bands, combined with the Sullivan High School Band and Jazz Band.
