I-Cash Comes to Moultrie Co.

News Progress Posted on May 16, 2018 by webmasterMay 16, 2018

•May 16, 2018•

On Wednesday, May 23 Moultrie County Treasurer Marci Thompson will be giving money away — sort of.

From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Illinois State Treasurer Michael W. Frerichs’ office will have people at the Moultrie County Treasurer’s office to help claim property through the I-Cash program.

Anyone may visit IllinoisTreasurer.gov/ICASH, enter your name and find out whether they have property to claim.

Thompson explained that the State Treasurer’s office will not only help Moultrie County citizens locate unclaimed funds and property, but also help complete the claim so processing begins that day.

“This is our third year, and the response has really been good,” Thompson said. “I thinks it’s fun when people discover they are going to get free money.”

A lady from Moultrie County was able to claim a $10,000 life insurance benefit through an I-Cash visit a couple of years ago the county treasurer noted.

She did explain that documentation of ownership will be needed to submit along with I-Cash claim form.

Many of the unclaimed amounts are under $100 and could be anything from utility deposits to old bank accounts and unpaid insurance benefits.

The State Treasurer’s office encourages checking the I-Cash site every six months because hundreds of thousands of new properties are added throughout the year.
