Southern Gospel Concert

A southern gospel concert featuring Rick Alan King from Goodlettsville, TN will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 6 pm at the Allenville Christian Church, 201 S. Allen Street, Allenville. Rick has been traveling and singer southern gospel music for many years. Gregory T. Ridenhour will also be singing a few songs. Concert is free however a generous love offering will be collected. There will be finger food fellowship after the concert.

Safe Trick or Treat Sign Up

Safe trick or treat will be held on Monday, October 31 from 4 to 6 pm in Sullivan. Sullivan Chamber and Economic Development members participate for free. Non-members is $50. Forms must be turned in by October 15. To sign up e-mail director@sullivanchamber.com.

Sparrows Toy Run

The Sparrows Toy Run will be held on Saturday, September 24. Sign up is at the Lovington American Legion Post from 11 am to Noon that day. Stops will be announced the day of the run, final stop at Jerry’s East End in Lovington. Sign up fee is a toy. All toys donated will benefit Lovington families. During the run there will be heads or tails, 50/50, scavenger hunt, wood chip search and free food at second stop and last stop. For more information contact Pam at 201-0662 or Jessica at 620-7579.

Anglers Tribute to Veterans on Lake Shelbyville

The Anglers Tribute to Veterans on Lake Shelbyville is accepting nominations for veterans to receive a day fishing trip on Lake Shelbyville, dinner and drinks at the VFW in Sullivan as well as prizes, giveaways and drawings. The event will be held on Saturday, November 5 from 7:30 am to 3 pm. 24 finalists will be awarded. Forms can be found at Chip’s Marine and online at “Anglers Tribute To Veterans” Facebook page. Winners will be announced on Thursday, October 13 on the Angler’s Tribute to Veterans Facebook page at 5 pm.

Mobile Food Pantry

University of Illinois Extension in cooperating partnership with Decatur Catholic Charities and Windsor School District will hold a mobile food pantry on Wednesday, October 12 from 4-5 pm at Windsor Grade School. A mobile food pantry delivers a 2 week supply of food per family in rural communities. Any individual or family that does not have a steady supply of food qualifies to receive food. No financial information is required to qualify. This distribution is open to all, not only residents of Windsor. The deadline to sign up is Wednesday, October 5 by 4:30 pm. To sign up call 217-774-9546 during business hours of 8 am to Noon and 1 pm to 4:30 pm Monday-Friday. Once your form is completed by phone, you will be given a number to bring with you on the day of distribution. If you lose your number, you need to bring identification. Food will be distributed according to household size on October 12 from 4 pm to 5 pm at the Windsor Grade School cafeteria.

Mudd Named to Dean’s List

Christopher Mudd of Mattoon has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Summer 2022 Dean’s List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.500 to 3.699 for the reporting term are named to the Dean’s List. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

SNHU Summer President’s List

Those named from the area are Donald Munro, Elizabeth Morrow and Lisa Blackwell, all of Mattoon and Samantha Berner of Sullivan. Full-time status is achieved by earning 12 credits over each 16-week term or paired 8-week terms grouped in fall, winter/spring, and summer.

Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Banquet

The Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance third annual banquet will be held on Saturday, October 1 at 4 pm at the Sullivan VFW, 1132 IL 32 in Sullivan. Doors open at 5:30 pm with dinner served at 6:30 pm. The menu is steak or chicken dinners. Cost is $40 for single, $60 for a couple, $10 for minnow (age 16 and under), $150 for sponsor, $170 for sponsor couple and $1,000 for table sponsor. $10 price increase at the door. National Life Chain Sunday

National Life Chain Sunday will be Sunday, October 2 from 2-3 pm in Sullivan. Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life individuals standing for 60 minutes praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. Signs will be available for participants to choose from to hold while they stand and pray will be available at the corner of Hamilton and Jackson Street starting at 1:45 pm. They ask that those participating stand or sit 6-10 feet or more apart so they signs will be easier to read. The event will happen light rain or shine and participants may bring a lwn chair if they are unable to stand.

Volunteers Needed for Barn Raising

There will be a traditional barn raising for the Herschberger-Miller barn on Friday, October 28 and Saturday, October 29 from 9 am to 5 pm each day at the Illinois Amish Heritage Center. They are seeking volunteers for skilled and non-skilled labor. Skilled labor tasks will include assist in raising bents, installing mow floor, installing siding and installing roofing. Nonskilled labor tasks will include carry lumber, de-nail boards, paint siding, peg making, clean up and admissions. For more information call 217-202-2035. The Illinois Amish Heritage Center is located on Rt. 133 between Arcola and Arthur. Their address is 284 East Illinois Route 133 in Arthur.
