Sullivan motorists were enjoying 89.9 cent per gallon gasoline as the new Sullivan 7-Eleven held its grand opening on S. Hamilton St.

A Lovington woman was ticketed at the intersection of Jackson and Hamilton streets after her vehicle “T-boned” a Chevrolet van driven by Robert E. Best, 60, of Sullivan.

Carol Pratt, 34, of Arthur was unable to avoid striking a horse that had wandered onto Route 133 near CR1700E . Horse owner Enos N. Schrock was attempting to retrieve the horse when the accident occurred.

Rev. J.T. Burns of San Diego, Calif., pastor at First Presbyterian Church in Sullivan in the 1930s and early 40s, visited friends and family. His wife Margaret (Chapin) was daughter of former Moultrie County News publishers Mr. and Mrs. Arlo Chapin. Read More

Crossman’s kindergarten class has plenty of energy and they are ready to learn.

Emily Crossman, Arthur Elementary School kindergarten teacher is raising funds through DonorsChoose.org to help students beat the winter blues.

The Beat the Winter Blues, That Is Inside Recess has a $1210 goal and needs some $920 more to purchase unit blocks, Playstix, and Magna-tiles for inside recess.

“Kindergartners are energetic, motivated, and enthusiastic learners. They come into the room ready to learn, move, and interact,” Crossman said.

“The students are eager to try new skills, learn new concepts, and participate in silly activities. Kindergartners soak up anything and everything you throw at them,” she continued. “Watching them grow, mature, and succeed has been one of the greatest joys of my career.” Read More

WHS Students of January

Windsor Jr./Sr. High School would like to announce the January Students  of the Month. Haley Beck is the daughter of Trent and Angela Beck.  Beck is currently an 8th grade student and is involved in Volleyball, Scholastic bowl, Eco team, Band, Drumline, and Softball. Dalton Armes is the son of Tony and Kelli Armes.  Armes is currently a junior and is involved in Baseball, Assistant Coach for the 5th/6th Grade Basketball team, IHSA SAC, Physics Club, and Student Council.  He plans to attend Lake Land for Pre-Physical Therapy and then transfer to Indiana State University. A livestock, machine shed, upholstery shop located northeast of Cadwell received extensive fire damage during a Friday afternoon fire. Arthur, Lovington and Sullivan fire departments responded to the building owned by Harvey Chupp. Firefighters were on the scene four hours battling the blaze during intermittent rain.

Icy roads contributed to multiple accidents in Moultrie County. Two people were treated at local hospitals following a three car accident on Hwy 121 one mile west of Route 32.

Three vehicles overturned in separate crashes. The driver of a truck left the road and overturned after striking an embankment on Bruce-Findlay Road at 3:50 p.m.

By 4:30 p.m. a van driven by a Windsor resident left Rte 32 north of Sullivan and overturned. Another driver slid through an intersection on Findlay road and overturned. No serious injuries were reported in the three single vehicle accidents. Read More
