Mo-Do 4-H Fair Begins Wed.

The Moultrie Douglas 4-H Fair will begin Wednesday July 9 with more than 500 exhibits. The fair will consist of the following dates and events:

• Wednesday, July 9
-Otto Center
-All Foods, General Projects & Public Presentations
-Judging 5:00 p.m.

•Friday, July 18
-Mo-Do Fairgrounds
-Sheep 6:30 p.m.
-Swine 7:00 pm.

LLC Announces Part-Time Spring Semester Honors List

The Lake Land College 2014 spring semester academic honors list for part-time and full-time students has been released by the college.

To qualify for the president’s list, a student must have a GPA of 3.8 – 4.0.

To qualify for the dean’s list, a student must have a GPA of 3.65 – 3.79.

To qualify for the honor’s list, a student must have a GPA of 3.5 – 3.64.

A grade “A” is four points, a “B” is three points, a “C” is two points, etc.

Real Estate Tax Bills Mailed

Moultrie County real estate taxes were mailed June 9. The first installment is due July 11, and the second installment is due September 4.

Property owners are encouraged to look over his or her tax bill and make sure all of the information is correct. It is the responsibility of the property owner to report all address changes to the assessor’s office, 728-4951. Assessment and exemption questions should be directed to the Supervisor of Assessments office. Read More

Lane Receives Honors at Luncheon

From virtual Texas Hold ‘Em to organizational communication and wildlife resource management, members of the Lake Land College Honors Program have been conducting undergraduate research this year in a variety of topics. Several Honors Program students recently presented their findings at the annual honors luncheon where they were also recognized for their achievements.

There were six members of the Honors Program this year, including Adriene Lane, a speech communication major from Sullivan who graduated from Okaw Valley in 2013. Read More

Bethany Post Office Celebrates Zip Code Thursday

The Bethany USPS office will modestly celebrate this coming Thursday, which represents the village’s zip code, 61914.

Postmaster Shelly Freeman and clerk Cindy Yoder invite the public to come in to the USPS office from 9-11:30 a.m. or 12:30-4 p.m. Thursday and enjoy cookies decorated with the village’s zip code.

Bethany postal carriers are Norm Yoder, Luke Casteel, Cheryl Cribbet and John Oliver, and custodian is John Krohn.

Sullivan Board Votes to Place County School Facilities Sales Tax on Nov. Ballot

Submitted by the Sullivan School District

On May 12, the Sullivan Community Unit School District Board of Education passed a resolution to place a County School Facilities Sales Tax on the November 2014 ballot. Because District 300 enrolls more than half the students in Moultrie County, this vote means that the proposal will appear on the November ballot. Other county districts are expected to pass similar resolutions showing their support for giving voters the opportunity to vote on this important proposal. Read More

“Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
