Okaw Valley won their ninth straight contest Friday beating the Purple Riders 9-0.  Senior Drew Fruchtl tossed a complete game gem to stay a perfect 7-0—the best record in the area.

Now 18-2 overall the Timberwolves have a week of conference contests to decide who sits atop the Little Okaw Valley Northwest.  Head coach Andrew Hagerman commented the team was just happy to be playing again after a wet start to May, “It’s 75 and sunny; these kids wanted to come out and swing today. We haven’t played a lot of these days. We have been playing two game weeks instead of four. The conference games we will make up, so we have five or six games this week.”

Arcola threatened to take an early lead in the first after a two out infield single was followed by a double off the fence in right center. Faced with runners on second and third with two outs, Fruchtl bounced back with a clutch strikeout to end the threat.

Timberwolves’ leadoff man Taylor Coleman started a three run rally in the bottom of the first with a single to the gap in right center. Fruchtl then helped his own cause with a double to left, setting up second and third with no outs.   Read More

Sullivan baseball took a disappointing 5-3 loss at home versus Clinton Thursday.

Brett Tuttle pitched four strong innings and departed with a one run lead in the fifth. Zach Sowers looked dominant in relief of Tuttle until the top of the seventh when Clinton managed three runs.

Head coach Troy Rogers said the team right now is battling. “We just got to get some confidence back. We owe Pana for last year so we got some fuel there. But we need to remember to play this game with intensity and let it happen. We have got some guys pressing a little bit.”

Clinton jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning after a pair of two out infield singles were followed by a double in the gap to right center. Sullivan has bounced back after early deficits numerous times this season, but being in a hole early makes it tough. “We are struggling getting rid of that one bad inning that gives them a couple runs. We have had one of those it seems like the past three conference games. It was not a blow up inning, but we gave them a couple outs, and they took advantage of it. When you are playing tight ball games those extra outs tend to hurt.” Read More

The Challenger League 2016

News Progress Posted on May 11, 2016 by webmasterMay 11, 2016

Photo furnished On Saturday, May 7 the Okaw Valley baseball team defeated Paris 6-3. What followed the game was the real victory. The baseball players from the Okaw Valley team stayed after the game to help with the Challenger League. The Challenger League is based out of Paris and gives special needs and disabled children a chance to learn baseball, this time with some extra help from experienced high school players. It was a great experience for the Timberwolves to volunteer, without even knowing this was happening after the game.
