Bombers Over Knights Volleyball at Home

Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond Knights volleyball team fell to the Argenta-Oreana Bombers in a home match held Sept. 29.

The varsity Knights record is 10-8 overall and 1-1 conference.

The game scores were 25-22, 19-25 and 20-25.

Chelsey Chupp had one kill and one dig; Kalli Martin-one kill and one dig; Kim Davis had seven digs. Read More

Okaw Valley Volley Loses Out in LOVC Tournament Action

Okaw Valley lost to Arcola and Cerro Gordo in LOVC tournament action October 3. In the first match Arcola won both games 14-25 and 17-25.

In the second encounter with Cerro Gordo the Timberwolves were strong in the first game, winning 25-22, then lost the next two 20-25 and 14-25. Read More

Knights, Timberwolves Place in LOVC Golf Tourney

The LOVC conference golf tournament at the Kaskaskia Country Club in Arcola was Saturday, Sept 26 with Decatur LSA shooting 315 for team lead followed by Arcola/Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hamond with 317 and Okaw Valley 345.

Arcola/ALAH golfer Clayton Miller was conference champion shooting two over par with a 72. He was followed by LSA teammates Dylan Ground and Mitch Creamer shooting 73 apiece for the runner-up spot.

Blake Lindenmeyer of the Arcola/ALAH team shot a 76 for fourth with Shandon Herschberger tallying a 77 for fifth.

Bailey Conner of Arcola/ALAH was girls champion with a 99.

Oblong was fourth in team play with a 357; Tri-County scored a 370 for fifth with Villa Grove rounding out the field with a 449. Read More

Sullivan Golfers Take Second at Iron Horse

Sullivan golfers played at Iron Horse in Tuscola Sept. 24 with Monticello posting the low team score of 171.

Sullivan finished with a 182 followed by Tuscola at 186 and St. Teresa shooting a 203.

Sullivan is now 17-5, and 11-0 in the CIC conference.

There were no team scores for the Lady Redskin golfers. Brooke Tuttle shot a 48; Tatum Ellis a 52 and Irie Dulin a 63. Read More

Hawks Edge Past Redskins Volleyball Team

Meridan edged out the Redskin volleyball team at home on Sept. 24. The varsity Sullivan team scored 28-26 in the first game but lost 21-25 and 20-25 in the next two.

“Tonight the Sullivan Redskins came out strong, fought hard in the first game and pulled out a win,” coach Krista Smith said.

“The team had a few mental errors but stayed strong as a team in the second and third,” she continued. “Abby Elzy provided some great aces, and Chloe Riley had several outstanding hits and well-timed plays at the net.” Read More

Road Win for Okaw Valley

Okaw Valley’s volleyball team traveled to Ramsey Sept 22 and came home with a win.

Okaw Valley started off with a 25-20 win over the home team and followed up with a 25-17 match win. This brings the Okaw Valley team’s record to 9-5-0. Read More

Redskins Win Over Marshall at Arcola

The Redskins volleyball team played at the Arcola Invitational Tournament Saturday, Sept 26.

The team earned their first win against Marshall in the first match of the day. The Redskins looked their best in the third game of this match against Marshall. They earned the win with great energy and 100% teamwork. In the next match, they lost to Tri-County in two and gave Arcola a good run in the third match-- going three games.

“If the Redskins had pulled out a win in the match against Arcola, they would have been in the championship match; instead they played Altamont later in the day and lost in two,” coach Krista Smith said. Read More

Poppies to honor those who gave all

On Friday, May 22nd, Ruth Keown, Vice-President of the Sullivan American Legion Auxiliary Unit 68, greeted the public at the entrance to the local Post Office, distributing Memorial Poppies. Each year, millions of Americans wear these Memorial Poppies in memory of American service members who lost their lives in war while serving their country, and to assist those Veterans who are now hospitalized or in rehabilitation, suffering from wounds and illnesses. Memorial Day poppies distributed by the American Legion symbolize the ultimate sacrifice made by service members and are a tribute to those who lost their lives in war. Wearing the poppy is a way to honor the fallen and ensure their bravery is never forgotten.
