LLC Announces Local Financial Aid Nights Beginning this Fall

Lake Land College will soon hold Financial Aid Nights throughout the various communities in the Lake Land College district.
At the event, Lake Land’s financial aid staff will present information on the 2015-2016 application process, including information on state, federal, institutional and local financial aid programs. Parents, high school seniors or anyone planning to attend Lake Land or any two- or four-year college during the 2015-2016 school year are encouraged to attend. Read More

Sullivan, Okaw Valley School District Board Candidate Packets Available

Moultrie County Clerk, Georgia England, announces that Sullivan CUSD #300 and Okaw Valley CUSD #302 board candidate packets for the April 7, 2015 Consolidated Election will be available for pickup September 22 in the Moultrie County Clerk’s office located in the courthouse at 10 S. Main, Ste. 6 in Sullivan. This is a major change from the past when candidates received their packets from, and filed with, the Sullivan schools unit office. Read More

Blood Drive in Sullivan Saturday

The American Red Cross and Sullivan Church of God will sponsor a blood drive 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday September 13.
The blood drive will be held at the Sullivan Church of God at 321 North West Street in Sullivan (behind Neal Tire).
Each unit of blood donated can help up to three people.  Holiday seasons such as Labor Day can deplete blood supplies. Read More

Sullivan Marching Band to Host Contest Saturday

This coming Saturday the Sullivan high school marching band will host their inaugural marching band contest at Sullivan High School. Start time is noon, and there will be 11 bands from around central Illinois competing including Okaw Valley, Pana, Heritage, Maroa-Forsyth, Mount Zion, Monticello, Robinson, Paris, Mount Carmel, Effingham, and Sangamon Valley.   Read More

Fourth Annual Hullabaloo September 21

Hullabaloo on the square in Sullivan is coming Sunday, September 21 from 2 - 5 p.m. This event features free entertainment and activities for families including laser tag, inflatables such as bungee run, bounce house, joust, obstacle course, rock climbing wall, carnival games and contests, cupcake walk, candy and prizes, and face painting. Area vendors will also be selling food and beverages including popcorn, elephant ears, polish sausages, corn dogs, hot dogs, nachos, lemon shakeups, and soda. Read More

Jesse White’s Vehicle Renewal Sticker Receipt Legislation Signed Into Law

Allows people to drive if they have proof of recently purchased vehicle renewal sticker
Legislation proposed by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White to allow a printed receipt from the Secretary of State to serve temporarily as the vehicle renewal sticker was recently signed into law by the governor. The law takes effect Jan. 1, 2015. Read More

A Wet August Wraps Up a Cool, Wet Summer in Illinois

The 12th wettest August in Illinois finishes out the 10th wettest summer on record. While August was slightly warmer than average, the summer was cooler than average, according to Illinois State Climatologist Jim Angel, Illinois State Water Survey, University of Illinois.
The statewide average precipitation for August was 5.18 inches, 1.59 inches above average. The wettest area of the state was Cook County. The largest monthly total was from a site in Cicero with 10.20 inches of precipitation. There were a few areas in the northwest and east-central Illinois with only 2 to 3 inches of rainfall.
