Program promotes careers in agriculture across 40 states

America’s Farmers Grow Ag Leaders is now launching in 40 states, with more than $500,000 worth of scholarships available. Sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, the program provides $1,500 college scholarships to students pursuing a degree related to agriculture. Starting Nov. 15, high school seniors and college students in Illinois and other eligible states can apply for this opportunity. Read More

OV Dodgeball Tourney Nov. 9

The second annual Okaw Valley dodgeball tournament will benefit Crowder Park Overlot Memorial Scoreboard and will be held Sunday, November 9 at Okaw Valley High School.

Crafting for the Cure Saturday at Sullivan Church of God

Admission will be nonperishable good to be used in Gobbler Giveaway

Saturday November 1, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sullivan Church of God will be hosting an event for Relay For Life called Crafting for the Cure. This event will raise funds for the American Cancer Society. There are over 25 vendors coming with a large variety of goods and crafts to sell. This will be a place to pick up that Christmas present. Contact Jeri Davis for more information 273-9456. Admission fee is easy, just bring some of the following: canned corn, green beans, cranberry sauce, gray or yams, or boxed mac and cheese, cornbread mixes, cake mixes and icing, instant potatoes, or stuffing mixes. These items will be boxed up to provide a Thanksgiving meal to 50+ families in the Sullivan area in the churches’ first Gobbler Giveaway. Read More

Landmark torn down



News Progress


The home at the intersection of Route 133 and Route 32 in Lovington was torn down last week. The house had become a major hazard after a box truck struck it, taking out a large portion of the north wall. The owners had the home demolished after it was deemed a public safety issue.
