Food Drive in Lovington Oct. 12

The Lovington American Legion and Sparrows Unlimited will host a food drive 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, October 12 in Lovington.

The food drive will be held at the intersection of State and Broadway, and that which is collected will be donated to the Lovington Food Pantry.

FCCLA Selling T-Shirts

The Sullivan High School Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America is selling Sullivan Redskin T-shirts.

The shirts come in charcoal and available in infant-adult sizes.

Sullivan High School 78, 79 Class Reunion October 5

The alumni classes of 1978/1979 have combined their reunions this year and are gathering at 6 p.m. Saturday, October 5.  Reservations are $10 per person, and checks should be made payable to SHS Classes of 1978/1979. Money may be sent to Mary Kay Welsh at 414 N. Main Street, Sullivan, IL. 61951.

To date, 30 classmates from the two classes have expressed their intent to attend, but organizers would like to see more.

Blood Drive in Arthur Oct. 2

A blood drive will be held October 2 from 3-7 p.m. at the Community Building in Arthur, located at 120 E. Progress Street.

October is Liver Awareness Month and the American Red Cross reminds eligible donors that organ transplant patients often rely on donated blood products. Liver transplant patients may need 30 or more transfusions during the surgery.

Fun Run Sept. 28

Santa’s Sparrows will be hosting a fun run collecting toys for children Saturday September 28. 

Sign up will be from 11 a.m.-noon at Lovington American Legion. The sign-up fee is a newly purchased toy for a boy or girl ages infant-16 years old.

Stops will include the Cerro Gordo Legion, It’lldo2, Jimmy Pete’s in Humboldt, VFW in Sullivan, and the East End in Lovington.

All bikes, cars and jeeps etc. are welcome to join the ride to provide Christmas for kids. Those not joining the ride, they may be drop off toys at the Lovington American Legion Post 429 that day. For more information call 201-0662 or 620-7579.

“Gift of Grain” 4-H Fundraiser

4-H/Youth Development has a long history of “Making the Best Better” through research driven programs and activities. Learning by doing, the way 4-H/Youth Development works, is the most successful of any teaching/learning activity. To support the continuation of “Making the Best Better” the local Extension Foundations of Coles, Cumberland, Douglas, Moultrie, and Shelby counties and the Illinois 4-H Foundation are taking donations of grain on behalf of the 4-H Program. The fund-raising campaign is named “The Gift of Grain”. Read More

CEFS Elects Officers

The C.E.F.S. Economic Opportunity Corporation Board of Directors recently elected and officially seated officers for the fiscal year beginning September 1, 2013 and ending August 31, 2014. The Board of Directors re-elected Jean Finley of Ramsey as chairperson. Finley serves on the board representing the private sector of Fayette County and Finley is also chairperson of the Executive Committee. The Board re-elected Joan Lawrence of Taylorville as first vice-chairperson. Lawrence is the client sector representative from Christian County and serves as chair of the Membership Committee. Chuck Buchanan of Flora was re-elected as the second vice-chairperson. Buchanan represents the private sector from Clay County and also serves as chair of the Personnel Committee. The Board re-elected Amanda Watson of Beecher City as secretary. Watson serves on the Board as the representative of the client sector from Shelby County. Pat Green of Effingham was re-elected as Treasurer. Green represents the private sector from Effingham County. Green also serves as chair of the Finance/Audit Committee and the Economic Development and Employment Committee. Read More
