The breakfast that was originally scheduled for this Saturday at Jonathan Creek Church, as part of a celebration of Pastor Tim Henderson’s first year anniversary, has been cancelled. It will be rescheduled for a later date that has yet to be determined.

SPD Labor Day Campaign Stops

Loy Benefit Sept. 22
A benefit is set for September 22 at the Sullivan American Legion for Paula Loy, who has been fighting breast and bone cancer for four years. The cancer has since progressed to her brain, and though no more treatments are being sought, the benefit looks to raise money to help allow Loy a suitable stay at her home.
The benefit will kickoff at 1 p.m., with a card gun raffle-riffle starting shortly thereafter.
An auction will then begin at 2 p.m. with the following items and more to be featured: 100 gallons of propane, Agri-Fab Chip-n-Vac fully assembled, airplane ride, flat screen TV, custom made fishing rod, Illini football tickets, Cub-Cardinal tickets, antique hutch and rocker, i-Pad, seven tons of white rock, black dirt, and sand, a load of mulch, rounds of golf, and gift cards.
A bake sale and 50/50 raffle will also be featured, and a meal consisting of BBQ and Italian beef sandwiches, with chips, baked beans, and brownies will be served starting at 4:30 p.m. Meal tickets are $8 or two for $15.

The Okaw Valley High School Student Council has announced their annual Homecoming Week as September 16-21.
The overall theme to this year’s Okaw Valley homecoming festivities is “Rock of the Ages”. Each day will highlight a special theme at OVHS, and students are encouraged to participate accordingly. The week kicks off with Monday as “Dude Looks Like a Lady” day. Tuesday is “Rock Star Day”, where students are to dress as their favorite rock star. Wednesday’s theme is “Class Color Day” with the “Powder Puff” football games beginning at 7 p.m., and concessions will be available. Thursday is “International Music Day”, where students are to represent music from their favorite country. Read More
New Food Pantry in Bethany

The Bethany Ministerial Society has launched a new community food pantry. The group of ministers, seeing a need for food security in their community, wasted no time in setting things into motion.
The new food pantry is located in the First Christian Church at the S. St. John St. entrance. It is open 5-8 p.m. the last Tuesday of each month
Each family that comes will receive breakfast items, macaroni and cheese, beans, fruits, vegetables, a starch, a packaged meal, toiletries, and miscellaneous items. Read More
