Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance banquet

•February 5, 2025• The Lake Shelbyville Fish Habitat Alliance will hold a fundraising banquet at the Sullivan VFW located at 1132 IL 32, Sullivan, IL 61951 on February 22, 2025, to raise funds for continuing fish habitat improvements in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Illinois Natural History Survey and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources at Lake Shelbyville. Mary Grooms, 102, of Sullivan, died at 10:25 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2025 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon.Mary was born June 25, 1922 in Humboldt, the daughter of Oliver and Bessie Seeley Starwalt. She married John W. “Jack” Grooms in Humboldt on June 7, 1941; he preceded her in death on May 11, 2001.Survivors include her daughter, Mary Ann Sphar of Phoenix, AZ; son, John R. Basket Bingo

•January 29, 2025• To raise funds for the 2025 Prom, the SHS Prom Committee will be hosting Bingo, including prizes, raffle, silent auction and a bake sale along with food and drinks available.    The Basket Bingo will be held on February 21st in the high school commons. On Route 133 between Lovington and Arthur, power poles fell as a result of the storm systems that hit central Illinois in two waves on Wednesday, June 17th. These storms left many without power and caused widespread damage throughout the area, including confirmed tornado touchdowns in nearby counties.
