•August 25 2021• By Jim Baumann NP Guest Writer Constant reader Stan Zegel wants to know whether there are what he characterized as “stuttering verbs” in the language other than “pre-prepared.” Putting it more genteelly, are there verbs for which the prefix is repeated in the root of the verb? Well, Stan, if you can waltz and tango, surely you can cancan. Am I right? I can barely waltz without scuffing my wife’s shoes beyond repair, so perhaps this is a bad analogy. Counties Unite In Relay for Life

With limited funds to restart their program, the Moultrie and Coles county relays have combined resources and created the Coles-Moultrie County Relay for Life. Their first fundraiser was held Saturday, August 21, at Mattoon in Peterson Park. City Council Tables Bruder Tank TARP Project

The business is planning to expand their Sullivan operations by adding an additional facility at 1201 S. Hamilton Street. The project was to be paid for using a $225,000 state legislative grant and $12,045.82 from TIF fund. City Administrator Dan Flannell reminded the council there had been a strategic planning meeting designating the grant for the city building; however, Mayor Richard Glazebrook noted that they wanted the money to go into infrastructures such as roads. Cruise Night on the Square

All makes, models and years are welcome. There will be over $1,500 in door prizes as well as bounce houses, goodie bags and a cruise route. 25 Years Ago This Week Lucas Parrish and Whitney Stinson won the titles of Little Mister and Miss Bethany for 1996. Local dogs were in danger from a new outbreak of deadly parvovirus. Dr. Gregory Mauck at the Kaskaskia Valley Animal Hospital had seen an epidemic of the disease over a period of two weeks. Former Bethany resident Gale Keown won three gold medals in the Senior Olympics. Keown, of Maryville, Tenn. won the 100,200 and the 400 meter races.
