Local Business Owner Makes Christmas Brighter for Families

•January 6, 20201• By Crystal Reed NP Writer Elizabeth Houser, a Country Financial agent in Sullivan, decided to help make Christmas brighter for families. A few years ago, she started a Facebook group called The Giving Place where people may offer, at no charge, things they no longer need. She logged onto The Giving Place the first of December and asked whether people needed help with Christmas. She gave people an option of adopting a family. •January 6, 20201• June 3 Moultrie County graduates received a special gift this year-175 years of county history. Captured Moments, the pictorial history of Moultrie County 1843-2018, was given to some 225 graduating seniors from Arthur Lovington Atwood Hammond, Sullivan and Okaw Valley high schools. Restaurants were serving food and alcohol in designated outdoor areas following an executive order issued by Mayor Richard Glazebrook. During the May 26 city council meeting the mayor explained that the order approving outdoor dining and drinks is to facilitate the June 1 phased opening in Illinois. •December 30, 2020• The Sullivan City Council held a special meeting in closed session Monday, December 21 to interview candidates for the position of interim Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements. After returning from closed session, the council appointed Doug Booker as interim Commissioner of Streets and Public Improvements. Pauline Boehm Pauline Mae Boehm, 95, of Westervelt went peacefully to her Heavenly Home at 5:55 a.m. Sunday, December 20, 2020 in her residence. A graveside service for family and friends was held at 1 p.m. Saturday, December 26 in Findlay Cemetery in Findlay with the the Rev. Roger Quarton officiating. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, in Shelbyville. Memorials may be given to Westervelt Christian Church and mailed to Howe and Yockey Funeral Home, 415 North Broadway, Shelbyville, IL 62565. … Read More

25 Years Ago This Week The city of Sullivan and the surrounding area was paralyzed by a dangerous snow storm. Seven or more inches of snow has fallen to the ground on top of what was left from the snowstorm which hit the week before Christmas. The snow, combined with brisk winds, has left people stranded in the country and in town. The initial fundraising campaign of the recently formed Sullivan Community Education Foundation is off to a very strong start. “Together, We Give Back to School”

Sullivan Elementary School recently received 60 backpacks filled with school supplies through Amazon’s “Together, We Give Back to School” campaign. End of the Line Tackle & Bait, an Amazon delivery partner, nominated Sullivan Elementary for the program, and the school’s submission was selected to receive the donation. Pictured (left to right) are Cameron Martin, Taylor Lilly, James Martin, Marla Martin and Angela McRill following the July 27 delivery.
